A Multimedia Performance Work
A woman stands in a room full of red light, facing her own shadow. Mad Mystic is a multimedia exploration of what it means to connect — with oneself, and with another. Through music, movement, light and shadow — and poetry — the piece pushes against the constraints society places on identity: gender, and a stigma around mental illness that can cause as much as it follows.
Mad Mystic follows "Me" — a performance artist haunted by childhood trauma.
"Me" travels far from where she began, and lands in New York City, where she finds an artistic community that becomes her reason for being. The city isn't just a setting — it's the catalyst. A place where risk turns into discovery.
The piece draws its courage from artists who've made survival itself an act of creation. As Yayoi Kusama put it: "I fight pain, anxiety, and fear every day, and the only method I have found that relieved my illness is to keep creating art. I followed the thread of art and somehow discovered a path that would allow me to live."
